The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered an astonishing reversal in the previously buzzing American economy.
The economic blow could be particularly difficult for people aged 55 and over who, before the pandemic, made up almost a quarter of the total US workforce. And COVID-19 also delivers a double blow: Many seniors have jobs that cannot be done remotely, and many will not be able to return to the workplace simply because of an illness that disproportionately affects older people.
SeniorLiving.org has recently looked at jobs most affected by the pandemic and the highest proportion of older workers, as well as other data from a demographic sector that has become increasingly important to the American economy and, unfortunately, one of the jobs is most devastated by the coronavirus crisis.
