When I first entered the world of search engine optimization, you were able to literally optimize your website for every term and be at the top of Google within a month or two.
But of course that was a long time ago.
With Google’s constantly evolving algorithm, more time and effort is needed to get results.
But what happens if you don't have the luxury of time? Or you don't have the financial resources to make the effort that is really necessary.
What to do?
Of course not. Today I want to call 11 tools that can help you stand out from your competition. But unlike most lists, I'm going to go into great detail about the feature you should use in each tool to make your life easier and help you get results faster with less effort.
Let's dive right in.
Tool No. 1: Ubersuggest projects
You probably already know Ubersuggest, but do you really have time to spend hours on your SEO every week?
How can you improve your data traffic with the least effort?
You have set up a project in Ubersuggest.
As you can see, it shows your SEO traffic over time. You will find out whether your rankings are rising or falling, your link growth and your SEO problems.
With so many things in marketing, you don't have time to manually check your rankings or whether things go up or down or even what you need to fix.
Ubersuggest automatically does this for you all and even notifies you by email of what needs to be done. That way, you don't have to constantly check your SEO. Ubersuggest does everything automatically.
It also tells you what to focus on each week to maximize your traffic.
All you have to do is go to the dashboard and click on "add your first project".
It's as simple as adding your URL.
Then select the locations where you do business and from which you want traffic.
Then add the keywords you currently rank for or want to search for.
And of course you set up your traffic preferences.
And then you can get started.
If things go well, you will be notified. And if something goes wrong, you will also be notified. Ubersuggest even tells you what to fix.
This way you get the maximum results in no time.
Tool # 2: Google Analytics notifications
You have set up Google Analytics on your website, but how often do you log in?
And when you sign up, do you know what to focus on or what to look out for?
And if so, do you know what to do with this data?
Google Analytics is a great tool, but you don't want to see reports for hours. Instead, you want to spend your time getting results.
However, setting up notifications in Google Analytics can save you a lot of time.
If you watch from 6:33 a.m., you will see how to set up alerts. I added the entire video as it shows you how to set up Google Analytics in general if you haven't set up tracking.
Once you've set up alerts, you'll be notified again if something good or bad happens. I usually only set up notifications when things are going bad, so I know when to focus on correcting my marketing.
Tool No. 3: Trello
You probably think how the hell Trello is a marketing tool. It really isn't, but it's a good project management tool.
And with your SEO, you may have a team to help you, and Trello will help you streamline the process, make you more efficient, and get your results faster.
I keep my Trello board simple by dividing it into three sections.
- Do – What needs to be done over time?
- Prioritized – what I have to do now (tasks above are the most important)
- Done – Tasks that need to be checked again to ensure that they have been carried out correctly.
It's that simple. This way you don't have to manage your team in micromanagement.
Some people have more complex Trello boards, but something simple like me works too.
If you want to create a Trello board for your content marketing, assuming you want to write a lot of content (e.g. 10 posts a week), this process works well.
The columns I use for content writers are:
- subjects – This is where authors add topics they want to write about.
- Outline rating – Authors submit their outline before writing for approval.
- draft – Writers submit their draft.
- Draft review – The editors review every draft.
- Uploaded, prepared and ready for review – Here the editor adds the contribution to your CMS (like WordPress).
- Planned – Here you plan that the content will go live.
- Done – The content is now live.
We’ve found it effective to manage dozens of authors at once.
Tool No. 4: Content Decay Tool
Can you imagine how many articles I write each week?
Seriously, that's it. 1 item per week, which is approximately 4 to 5 per month (depending on the number of weeks in the month).
And can you imagine how many articles my team and I update each week?
That's about 90 a month.
Just think about it … why would a team of 3 update 90 articles per month if I only write 1 per week?
This is because updating old content is an easier way to get more SEO traffic than creating new content.
But what content should you update?
The content decay tool will let you know.
It breaks down by order of which articles you should update first, second, third … based on what generates the most traffic.
If you're wondering what to do with updating content, just imagine it like this:
- Is there anything out of date in your post – If so, either update the outdated information and make it relevant again. If you cannot, delete this part from your article.
- Can you use media to improve the experience? – Do you need to embed videos, add more pictures, or even add an infographic? Use media to better tell your story and message.
- Do you include the correct keywords? – An easy way to get more traffic is to include other popular related keywords in your article. Whatever your article is, add it to Ubersuggest and go to the Keyword Ideas report in the left navigation.
- Something missing? – Try to punch holes in your content. What could you have done to make it better? What are your competitors talking about that you forgot to mention? What questions have you not answered that the reader may have? If you ask yourself these simple questions, you can improve them.
Tool # 5: Ubersuggest Chrome extension
If you don't have the Ubersuggest Chrome extension installed, make sure you do.
I'm not going to bore you with all the features of the extension. Instead, I'll give you one thing that will save you time.
Do you know when to search for information on Google to learn more about a topic?
There is a possibility that you google sometimes to learn something related to your space. If you do this, you will find that your website is usually not at the top of the search results.
And that's fine.
However, when you do a search, you’ll see “monthly searches” in the Google search bar.
This shows you how often this keyword is searched for.
So always pay attention to this number when looking up something in your area. If you see a keyword with more than 5,000 searches, it can be worth targeting.
If you scroll down and search the websites that are at the top, you will notice metrics under each website.
If you notice a website with thousands of social shares and hundreds of links, this should again confirm that you probably want to strive for this term. And the listing with thousands of social shares and hundreds of links is a good yardstick for a high quality page that is preferred by the people in your area.
Ideally, you want to do something better than this, as this is the main way you beat them over time.
Tool No. 6: Hello bar
SEO is very different from paid traffic.
With paid traffic, you can lead people to a landing page with very little content, making it easier to generate sales or leads.
When it comes to search engine optimization, Google prefers the ranking of content-rich websites.
However, if someone lands on a page with education-based content, they are less likely to turn into a customer.
There is a simple solution … Hello bar.
The Hello Bar has a lot of features, but I just want you to use the top bar like NeilPatel.com.
And as you scroll, it moves with you.
This one little thing allows me to improve my conversion rate from my SEO traffic.
You can easily customize what you see with a few simple clicks in the Hello Bar, or even view different messages depending on where they come from.
Although SEO traffic does not convert as well as paid traffic, it is much cheaper in the long run and has a better ROI overall. And this one little hello bar will improve your numbers.

Every little bit adds up.
Tool No. 7: Mozcast
Google makes over 3,200 algorithm changes annually.
Are you really going to stay up to date with everyone?
If you followed the first tool and set up a project in Ubersuggest, you will be notified when your rankings decrease.
If you set up notifications in Google Analytics (tool number 2), you will also be notified when your traffic drops drastically.
You will find that keeping up with all Google updates is overwhelming, and it can be confusing figuring out what to fix to get your traffic back.
This report on Moz keeps track of all algorithm updates and gives you an overview of what has changed or what the update is about. In addition, you want to check the Mozcast when you get a ranking or decrease in traffic notification, as this tool confirms whether other people are seeing changes due to a Google update.
Note that Google doesn't announce every update. So you want to cross-reference what you see with Mozcast.
That way, you don't have to search for every update for hours.
Tool No. 8: Detailed
Link building is a pain. There are so many link tools like this … but let's not kid ourselves … you just don't have the time to spend 10 to 20 hours a week building links.
Every minute you spend, you have to make sure that it counts.
There is a tool called "Detailed" that breaks down the best links for each industry.
All you have to do is choose an industry and website and it will show you all the good links that will lead to your competition.
You can then focus on reaching these websites to get links.
Sure, you still need to have amazing content or a good product or service to convince these websites to link to you, but hey, if you don't have any of these, it will be difficult to do well in the first step make place.
So don't waste time looking for links when Detailed gives you a list of hundreds of amazing websites where you can get links from your area.
Tool No. 9: Site Speed Audit
Speed affects the leaderboard.
Google doesn't want to rate slow websites anymore.
It doesn't matter that the technology has gotten better and you can now buy satellite internet. Not every place has lightning fast internet.
For this reason, Google has an Accelerated Mobile Pages framework that supports the charging time of mobile devices.
However, this is not enough. Your website must also load quickly.
So go here and enter your URL.
You will then be directed to a report that looks like this:
You want to focus on the speed of the website. This Ubersuggest report comes from Google Lighthouse.
So send this to your developer and let them know that they should put you in the green mark for charging times for mobile devices and desktops.
With increasing speed, your SEO rankings and your traffic also increase over time.
Tool No. 10: Supermetry
Tired of having your data everywhere?
Why should you sign in to four out of five different apps to get your SEO and marketing data when you can sign in to one?
And no, I'm not talking about Google Analytics. I'm talking about Google Data Studio.

Google Data Studio is a business intelligence tool that lets you view all of your data in one place.
How do you get all of your SEO data in Google Data Studio? You use supermetrics.
All of your SEO data from multiple sources is passed to Data Studio, so you no longer have to sign in to multiple tools, including Google Analytics.
My favorite feature in Supermetrics is that you can automate your marketing reports so that you no longer have to manually create your reports.
Tool No. 11: VidIQ
Google is the most popular search engine.
But do you know what the second most popular search engine is?
It's not Bing … it's actually YouTube that Google actually owns.
If you haven't done YouTube SEO yet, you should think again. Just look at how much search traffic I get from YouTube every month.

Whenever you do a YouTube search, you’ll see what’s popular, what keywords are searched for each video, and what tags are used to drive more SEO traffic.
I wanted to end this post with VidIQ because it is not competitive.
Unlike traditional SEO, it doesn't take months to get results. YouTube SEO is the opposite, where it is not (yet) competitive and you can (seriously!) Be at the top within 24 to 48 hours of posting a video.
They say SEO is difficult and time consuming. And I'm not going to lie, you won't get results if you don't make an effort.
But who says it has to be so time consuming?
Using some of the tools above will save you time. It's really that simple.
I know there is a lot and it can be overwhelming. So if you don't have the time to use all the tools, that's fine. Just start at the top and work your way down (I'll sort them by what saves you the most time).
