Welcome to our Work From Home Q&A series. You ask a remote working question that is answered by a guest expert. Below is how to ask your own question.
This week's question comes from Paul:
"I was recently laid off, but I have to go back to work. Are there more immediate online jobs?"
4 types of appearances to consider
Some job search websites specialize in the types of jobs that are quick to get hired, and some of them are remote jobs.
While FlexJobs specializes in longer-term remote jobs, we've created a guide to freelance and gig job platforms to help anyone looking for a more immediate job posting.
These types of online job boards tend to specialize in different areas:
- Task jobswhere a person is doing small personal or online tasks that do not take much time to complete and that do not require advanced experience
- Driving and delivery orderswhere you drive your own car to deliver people or goods and services
- Grooming and animal jobswhere people in jobs like babysitting, dog walking, and similar gig jobs can provide care
- Write jobsHere people with excellent written communication skills can write a variety of content in one-off or ongoing projects
And of course there are a lot more vacant and gig jobs in areas like art and design, user testing, and personal assistant assignments.
I am a career development manager and coach at FlexJobs, where I help people find flexible work, including remote, part-time and freelance jobs. Before joining FlexJobs in 2010, I was a career advisor for students and alumni. I have a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management and I am a certified advanced resume writer.
