In the past few days, possibly from July 6th until today, July 8th, I have seen some signs of an update to the Google search ranking algorithm. The chatter is there, but it's more limited and may only affect a smaller group of websites or a smaller niche. The tools, most don't show much, but SEMRush shows an error.
The last unconfirmed but major update was around June 23, which seemed to have a big say on government sites. This is still not confirmed.
But now I see new conversations about a possible update in WebmasterWorld as well as in Black Hat World and on social media. This chatter also seems to be limited. Here are some quotes from the threads:
Massive drop in search traffic for this month, according to Analytics and GSC. Whatever Google's broken update is, it does a good job of screwing people up. Can confirm a small move on July 6th. Yes, there has been quite a significant movement in my widget sector. In their US .com SERPs, all of the usual preferences are back where they were before the May update, with the exception of a non-US company that has disappeared from the top 20. However, Pinterest also seems to have disappeared for now. July 6th was terrible. It's worse today. Education sector ~
It looks like something else is brewing for Google. All of my competitors are also hit.
Looks like a change in traffic today. The bounce rate has increased without changing the ranking. Familiar signs that something is wrong. Paint me white and call me crazy, but I think an update could be in progress? I think you may be right. Yesterday I noticed that my website was going up and down and then some pages came out of the top 100 and today they have returned to their position.
The only tool that shows an update is SEMRush and it's not off the charts.
The rest of the tools are pretty quiet for now …
The updated diagram for today shows it a little warmer:
Did you notice any changes in your organic Google search traffic on the last day or so?
