In February, Bing announced that it was working on a new Bing webmaster tool. We then saw some early screenshots of it. Today is the day this new version goes fully live and the old tool will be gone next month.

You can access the new Bing webmaster tools at bing.com/webmasters/. The old tools will be available at bing.com/webmaster (without S) in the next 30 days.

URL inspection tool

With this launch, Bing has added a number of new features, but one feature that I haven't covered before and that is new is the URL inspection tool, which you can use to check the Bing-indexed version of your URLs for potential indexing issues due to Crawling or discovering Do not follow Bing Webmaster guidelines. "It looks like this:

Expanding the indexing section shows when Bing discovered the URL, when the last crawl attempt was made, when it was crawled, retrieved, and indexed, and what canonical information is available:

If you click on one of the issues, it explains how to fix it with this pop-up for the "Meta-language tag missing" warning:

What else…

We have already seen the new features, including crawl control, URL submission, URL blocking, and more. Also a new site scan tool and a robots.txt tester tool. Bing has also published revised webmaster guidelines.

There will be more, including an updated version of the Index Explorer tool this summer, and more. Microsoft's Fabrice said this was not a simple port of the tool, but a revised version:

We will not port the Index Explorer (my favorite tool). We'll activate it better soon (my new favorite tool). https://t.co/A3HYtCqj27

According to Bing, the Bing webmaster APIs do not change. So use them as you currently do.

Great UX work Dhilan! https://t.co/Il0oxwEhqj
