OVH has published a status display on the support page for cloud servers:

“There is currently a serious incident involving a fire in building SBG2 in our data center in Strasbourg.
Firefighters were on the spot immediately, but could not control the fire in SBG2.

The entire site has been isolated, which affects all of our services for SBG1, SBG2, SBG3 and SBG4. If your production is in Strasbourg, we recommend activating your disaster recovery plan. All of our teams are fully mobilized together with the fire fighters. "

OVH tweeted that while the fire is over, firefighters will stay on site and allow the building to cool down. They also tweeted that many of the servers won't restart anytime soon.

“Fire is over. Firefighters continue to cool the buildings with water.
We do not have access to the website. Therefore, SBG1, SBG3, SBG4 will not restart today. "

Backup and recovery of disaster sites

Those who haven't backed up their data may find themselves in a difficult position. It is currently unclear whether OVH can restore the data lost on the cloud servers.

Sites that have a backup should be able to change their DNS to point to a different server and upload a new site immediately. However, it can take several days for the new DNS settings to propagate. It is therefore possible that some websites take a few days to return.
