I am seeing some signals and signs of an update to the Google search ranking algorithm that showed up in the last day or so. The chatter is limited, but it's there and it's unusual. Most tools show large shifts in the ranking of organic Google search.
The chatter started late on the night of January 7th when people said their rankings were fluctuating. Some say this is a continuation of the December 2020 core update, others say it is something new. Just note that the core update for December was rolled out around December 16, according to Google. Some say this is a new kernel-like update, but I think it's too early to say. Google is announcing core updates, so I doubt it's a core update.
The current two WebmasterWorld threads have the following comments:

Something big is insane with the SERPs.
Sudden drop at 10 a.m. CET. Significant changes too
Google has not announced an update. It could be one of those quirks we see every now and then or one of those unconfirmed updates. We'll keep an eye on that, but let us know what you see in the comments or on the forums.
The tools currently show the following:

I can add new tracking tools or updates when these are updated today as this update appears to have landed late at night and some of the tools may not have picked up on it yet.
