There seems to be a lot of chatter in the SEO community along with most of the tracking tools that have seen a lot of volatility in Google search results over the past 24 hours. This only happens a day or so after Google confirmed that the December 2020 core update was rolled out on the 8th day of Hanukkah.

I think 8th Day is a good name for a band or something, so why not a google update? Okay, seriously, it's weird to see such big swings right after a major core update was officially rolled out. Maybe Google wanted to put a line in the sand and not have one major update overlap with another update. Google previously overlapped major updates, sometimes more than three major updates in the same week. And it makes SEOs and website owners impossible to know what is going on.

So, what's up? I doubt Google would talk about this update, the day 8 update, but I doubt it is the core update. Google would not confirm the rollout is complete and then proceed with the rollout. Maybe it's a different update or improvements to the core update? I really do not know it. This may also be related to suspected but unconfirmed indexing issues on Google.

Here are some of the chatters from the WebmasterWorld and Black Hat World forums:

A 76% decrease in US traffic this morning at 10 a.m.! This includes a 49% decrease in visits to my homepage and an overall decrease in search queries of 36%. A new rotation every day, the pages of which fall through the floor. Lately my homepage has been pounding while traffic to lower-level pages seems to have improved. Has anyone else seen this? Indexing problems are displayed again. The console says "url is on google" but it doesn't. I also see problems with indexing. It seems that there are a lot more changes coming up today after this December core update. The traffic is down and Semrush is reporting movements. Is the Google Core Update for December 2020 really over? I do not believe that. After December 16, my traffic began to decline. Semrush meter with 8.4 out of 10 points. I don't think it's over. My traffic started to drop on the 16th as well. I'm still losing the position of keywords on my affected website. Another big tip in Semrush Sensor. Is the update really over? What is Google doing so far?

There are also comments on this blog about the changes:

Same massive moves today. No such changes seen since the unofficial June update.

Here are the tracking tools, some haven't updated this morning but I'll update them later later in the day.
