Right, there are 4 brand new Instagram Stories fonts to get you creative – as well as some fun new variations for the classics we already know and love.
We share all the details in this blog post, as well as our top tips to take your Instagram stories designs to the next level:
Introducing the new Instagram Stories fonts
Earlier this year Instagram announced that some new stories were coming to us:
And now they're here!
The brand new fonts are now available in the Instagram Stories editor – along with a revised version of the original lineup.
To access the new fonts, all you have to do is open the Instagram Stories editor and tap the font icon in the top right corner of the screen.
From here, you can scroll to discover 9 different font options:
The first 5 fonts are proven ones that should already be known: Classic, Modern, Neon, Typewriter and Strong.
However, some of these robust classics have also been revised.
Stay up to date for a complete overview of all new fonts, as well as our top tips on how to use them to improve your Instagram Stories designs:
New Instagram Stories Fonts # 1: Strong's New Double Layer Drop Shadow
Strong is one of the most popular fonts in Instagram stories and has just received an exciting new upgrade.
It now comes with a trendy new two-layer drop shadow instead of a solid background highlight.
This new drop shadow effect can be added by tapping the text marker icon at the top of the text editor:
Drop shadow colors are automatically generated based on your selected text color. However, you can easily switch colors (from background to foreground and vice versa) by tapping the highlight button.
This updated highlighting option makes this font very versatile – it is perfect for overlaying images. You can manually select one of the accent colors by tapping the color wheel icon and using the color picker or swatch tool.
TIPPING: Can't find a perfect shade in the swatch menu? Press and hold one of the color options to open a full color palette.

New Instagram Stories Fonts # 2: The New Outline of Modern
Modern, the second font in the series, also has a fun new outline highlight:
This cute and playful variant can be very effective, especially when combined with the original block color font design.
TIP: The outline variant can be a little difficult to read. It is therefore worth enlarging them for better legibility in the design of your stories.
New Instagram Stories Fonts # 3: A crazy new comic with no inspired font
Next up is a crazy new font on the block that is already polarizing the Instagram community.
I love it or hate it, this Comic Sans-inspired font (sixth on the menu) is here to stay, complete with a playful brush-style highlight effect:
The irregularity of this font is perfect for brands that want to market themselves as casual, youthful or playful, and is great for brands with a slightly silly or ironic touch.
TIP: Do you want to change both the text color and the highlight color? Select the text and then choose a color from the swatch menu (see below).
New Instagram Stories Fonts # 4: A chic new serif font with an editorial feel
The next new font is perfect for brands that want to create an editorial look in their Instagram Stories content.
This italic, light serif font has a refined touch and works well with and without a highlight option: an all-caps contrast inspired by magazines.
By default, the highlight is black and white – a clear and contemporary style that clearly alludes to the world of fashion editing. However, you can adjust the colors by tapping the color wheel tool.
This new font is both modern and sophisticated, making it a great option for stylish, fashion-conscious brands.

New Instagram Stories Fonts # 5: A Simple, Yet Versatile Sans Serif Option
Instagram has also added a new, versatile sans-serif font to the mix.
This clean and clear font is only available in capital letters and is the perfect all-rounder for brands on Instagram.
The highlight option is a block color that is trimmed to the length of the text so that it is easy to read when applied to images or videos. The rounded marking edges make the application softer and provide a more casual impression.
TIP: Play with additional gaps before applying a highlight to create a custom text design!
New Instagram Stories Fonts # 6: A crisp and classic serif for outstanding headlines
The final font in the new range is a classic serif option – and one that has great potential for brands looking to improve their Instagram Stories designs.
In contrast to the previous italic serif font, this option in the highlighting variant enables both uppercase and non-uppercase letters.
The highlighting automatically adds padding for a clean, plaque-like application, and color variations can be adjusted by tapping the color wheel icon.
This final font is great for luxury or prestige brands, but can also be used for any brand with a more mature audience.
Needless to say, these new font options open up enormous opportunities for brands who want to change their brands Instagram stories designs!
