Snapchat is investing heavily in promoting its new Spotlight feature at $ 1 million per day to users who submit the best content.

Spotlight is described as Snapchat's response to TikTok as it allows users to create similar types of content.

Spotlight allows users to create short videos up to 60 seconds in length and edit them using creative tools such as:

  • Captions
  • Licensed music
  • Original sound recordings
  • Augmented Reality Filters (called Lenses)
  • GIFs
  • Hashtags

Snapchat calls the feature "Spotlight" because it aims to highlight entertaining videos from all users, regardless of the number of followers or the influence they have.

Spotlight also highlights content from users, whether or not they have a public profile. Snapchat says in an announcement:

"It's a fair and fun place for Snapchatters to share their best snaps and see perspectives from the entire Snapchat community."

To encourage use of the new feature, Snapchat pays users a $ 1 million share every day for the best content.

Here's more about Spotlight, how to use it, and how you can potentially earn some of the prize money.

How can users submit content to Spotlight?

Users can submit content to Spotlight by creating a Snap in the normal way.

Next, there is a new option at the top of the Send To screen to choose Spotlight.

From there click the Submit button in the lower right corner and the content will be sent.

Users have the option to add topics to their Snap before they are sent to Spotlight. This is recommended so that people interested in the subject can be made aware.

With Snapchat, users get $ 1 million per day for using Spotlight

How does Snapchat curate Spotlight content?

Snapchat shows up submitted content in a new section dedicated to Spotlight videos. The content is displayed based on the individual preferences of the users.

“We focus on getting the right snapshots to the right person at the right time. We do this by trying to understand your personal preferences. "

Snapchat's algorithm also takes the following factors into account when curating content:

  • Watch time
  • Likes
  • Shares
  • Bounce rate

Before content appears in Spotlight, moderators review it to make sure it's both appropriate and entertaining.

Snapchat emphasizes that Spotlight is an entertainment platform, not a place for news or overly political content.

How Can Snapchat Users Make Money From Spotlight Submissions?

Whether a Spotlight submission makes money is determined using a proprietary formula based on how many unique views it receives versus other content submitted that day.

Snapchat notes that it is actively monitoring for fraud to make sure it doesn't artificially increase the number of views.

Earnings are paid out to users every day, and Snapchat sends a direct message to notify people that some of the money has been awarded.

As far as I can tell, there is no limit to how many times the same person can make money from Spotlight Submissions. This allows users who win to continue submitting content to potentially earn more prize money.

Through the end of 2020, Snapchat will pay out $ 1 million a day every day. And maybe even longer, says the company.

Spotlight is slowly being rolled out and is initially available in the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom
